TouchType released the beta version of SwiftKey X back at the end of March. We decided to give the software keyboard a try, and were pretty pleased with the accuracy of its predictive engine, though found the app rough enough around the edges that we were anxious to see how it would fare when it finally got polished-up and left beta. That day has arrived, and TouchType is celebrating the release with a limited-sale sale.

Up until this Saturday, you can get SwiftKey X for an introductory price of about $2. Wait until next week, and the app will go up to its $4 standard price, with the tablet version fetching an extra $5.

What does SwiftKey X do differently from other software keyboards? Its most notable feature may be how it builds its vocabulary for text prediction. After you grant it access, it will crawl your GMail account, Facebook, Twitter, and text messages, learning your style. That way, predictions are based on the history of what you’ve actually typed, rather than using generic frequency charts. SwiftKey X also adapts to how you use your touchscreen, hopefully becoming steadily more accurate over time.
