KDDI Corporation and Okinawa Cellular Telephone Company have announced yesterday their plans for three Android powered devices to hit the Japanese market after late December 2010, the Regza IS04, IS05 and the SIRIUSα IS06.
The Toshiba made Regza IS04 is not only water proof but will feature a 12-megapixel camera to capture images that will be displayed on its 4-inch FWVGA (Full Wide Video Graphics Array, 854x 480) display, with the aid of a 1GHz Snapdragon processor running Android 2.1 Eclair. Such a high megapixel count is not uncommon as we’ve seen the Altek Leo, shown off at CommunicAsia 2010, that brings a 14-megapixel camera to an Android handset, likely arriving to Europe Q1 2010.
The Regza is unlikely to be available outside Japan since it is packed with features and functions common to this country such as one-segment TV broadcasting and Osaifu-Keitai (meaning Mobile Wallet – NTT DoCoMo), a feature also available on the Sharp IS03 Android powered Retina display contender.
