The Sony Ericsson “PlayStation phone,” — possibly called the Xperia Play — has probably been the most leaked high-profile device in recent memory (even the iPhone 4 never powered on), and yet we haven’t once seen it engage in its raison d’ĂȘtre, namely gaming. Well thanks to Chinese-language site TGBUS, we’ve now been treated to over ten minutes of this handset getting its game on — although admittedly, its only playing regular Android titles from Gameloft such as Gangstar and Dark Quest, and not the games that are presumably being developed specifically for its Z-System architecture. Still, it’s nice to see the gamepad finally getting utilized, and the ten-page in-depth preview also includes dozens of comparative photos and screenshots of the interface.

We expect Sony Ericsson to announce this model alongside the Xperia Duo and Xperia Neo at Mobile World Congress in February, following last week’s launch of Xperia Arc — a.k.a. Anzu / X12 — at CES. Leaked specs have the gaming handset sporting a four-inch WVGA display, 1GHz processor plus Adreno 205 GPU, 512MB of RAM, and five-megapixel camera. An April release has been rumored.
