About two months ago, we started hearing rumors that HTC’s mid-to-low-range Wildfire S might be interested in making its way over to T-Mobile. It certainly wouldn’t make many waves when it arrived, but there’s always room for a solid value-priced option to balance out all the bleeding-edge handsets on the horizon. At the time, that was nothing but a rumor, with a blurrycam image of the phone to go along with it. Thanks to the publication of some recent FCC documentation, we have our first sliver of evidence that points to there being some truth in that rumor.

Early this morning, the FCC published the certification paperwork for HTC’s PG76240. The documents clearly show a phone equipped with a WCDMA radio on T-Mobile’s 1700MHz band. When the HTC Wildfire S first hit the FCC back in April, it bore model number PG76100; close enough that we’d think about a connection with today’s handset, but pretty far from being a slam dunk; how can we know if this is a T-Mobile Wildfire S or not?

One telling observation is that the FCC certification labels for both this model and the Wildfire S are nearly identical, aside from different screw clearances in the lower-right. The measurements are ever-so-slightly off between the two, but the resemblance is undeniable; this very well could be the Wildfire S / HTC Marvel / whatever T-Mobile comes up with.
