There are plenty of software keyboards available for Android out there, and with what seems like fewer and fewer phones arriving nowadays equipped with hardware QWERTY keyboards, the choice of a good software alternative is more important than ever. For many users, that choice leads them to SwiftKey, which we know for its impressive predictive text engine, analyzing how we type in order to become more accurate over time. Today, we learn of some changes that aim to make that performance even better, upon the release of SwiftKey beta 3.

The big news in this release is the new Smart Space feature, letting you type run-on strings of letters without bothering to hit the space bar after every word, instead using software to determine where you likely meant to include them. Reports note that the function works remarkably well, and while you’ll still end up needing the space bar in some situations, Smart Space should ultimately help speed-up your typing. For when you do need it, beta 3 makes the on-screen space bar larger than ever, hoping to make it easier to hit at a glance.

Additional features include a pair of new themes, improved punctuation input, and support for backing-up your custom dictionary file with Google. SwiftKey beta 3 is available now to members of the SwiftKey VIP community.
