It’s been just about a month since we heard about a new beta release of SwiftKey, introducing Smart Space at the time. That feature was designed to let you type in one long run-on sentence, using its algorithms to determine where to automatically insert spaces. Today it’s time for another new release, this time tweaking Smart Space, fixing a few bugs, making some adjustments to the user interface.

The latest SwiftKey 3 Beta makes a few changes to how the on-screen keyboard is displayed. As of this release, the toggle key for entering numbers has been slightly relocated, and there’s a new dedicated comma key being added.

Bugfixes include correcting an issue that would would cause the decimal point key not to properly appear, as well as one that would annoy users by continuing to bring up the app’s “what’s new” notifications over and over.

You’ll once again be able to customize just how long counts as a long touch, and changes to the app’s Smart Punctuation display should help improve usability a bit.

We’re not sure exactly what changes have been made to Smart Space, suffice it to say that the sum of their effects is supposed to be an improvement. You might also notice a general performance bump, with the app now running with less lag on certain devices.
