Back in June, we heard an assortment of rumors about upcoming smartphones on Sprint. Samsung’s Galaxy S2 was obviously mentioned, along with a sequel to the Epic 4G. We had no clue at the time that those two might end up being one-and-the-same device, but that’s how the case seems now, after the claim has arisen that the Galaxy S2 will launch on Sprint as the Samsung Epic Touch 4G.
BGR cites unnamed sources for this information, which seems to disprove earlier assumptions that Sprint’s Galaxy S2 would be the Galaxy Within. This is a bit of a surprising move for Sprint, not only going with a non-QWERTY model as the next Epic, but dropping the name of one of the most buzzed-about smartphones around.
The supposed September release, at least, fits in with what we’ve heard earlier; no word on price. As you can tell from its 4G designation, the smartphone will use Sprint’s WiMAX network; earlier we saw what appeared to be the Galaxy S2 show up at the FCC with Sprint WiMAX bands.
