Sprint announced that it will be the first US carrier to launch Android 2.2 Froyo with an update scheduled for August 3 for the HTC EVO 4G. The EVO 4G was launched to great media buzz earlier this summer with HTC Sense and Android 2.1 on a spacious 4.3-inch LCD display. With Android 2.2, the EVO 4G will be capable of playing Adobe Flash 10.1 content and have a richer, more desktop-like browsing experience with that browser plugin, along with numerous speed improvements to enhance the user experience.
OTA notifications will be pushed on August 3, but if you want Froyo early — and opt to be a guinea pig in the rollout to test the update’s over the air capabilities — you can manually check for the update on your EVO 4G and see if you can pull the update a few days in advance.
These are other improvements that the EVo 4G OTA update hopes to bring:
Voice Dialing Over Bluetooth.
Application Storage on External Memory, giving users more storage room for all their apps.
Camera 4-way rotation allows the camera icons to rotate with the camera.
