If the insider Sprint update documents Android Central got its hands on pan out, not only do we have confirmation of the earlier rumored February 21 Froyo update for the Epic 4G, but also our first news on a Froyo update coming to a bit of an Android underdog, the Sanyo Zio.
Both updates are scheduled to begin on the 21st, with the Zio maintenance planned to take place over the following five days. According to the Sprint documents, users should look for a three-part update and try to retrieve over WiFi if at all possible.
Considering the Zio is still on Android 1.6 with Cricket, Sprint users are getting a heck of a value out of their Sanyos by comparison. The phone may not be a powerhouse by any modern measure, with only a 600MHz CPU and 512MB of RAM, but this Android 2.2 update should help extend the smartphone’s useful life a little longer. In addition to the base Froyo package, Zio users will also get Swype and enjoy some little tweaks to the phone here and there, including a purported gain in battery life.
