The reason why we say it’s “sort of” official is because the Android version of Windows Live Messenger is coming from the same third party Miyowa software company that made the sort of official Windows Live Messenger for Windows Phone 7. Microsoft used to make mobile versions of Windows Live Messenger themselves for platforms like iOS, Windows Mobile 2003-6.5, Nokia Symbian, and Blackberry. For some reason, they’ve been contracting out Live Messenger mobile development to Miyowa for Windows Phone 7 and now Android. If you’ve used Miyowa’s version of Windows Live Messenger on Windows Phone 7, you probably weren’t that impressed. The Android version will feature push notifications and multi-tasking, but we don’t expect it to support multiple points of presence or anything special like video messaging that you might find in the desktop versions of Windows Live Messenger.
