When AT&T took the stage to announce its next wave of LTE-capable smartphones at this year’s CES, we finally got confirmation of just what Sony’s Xperia Ion would be, learning of plans to bring the dual-core Android to the carrier. We’ve still got a few months to go before the Ion becomes available, since AT&T revealed the phone will be arriving sometime during the second quarter of the year. While we still await news of a more specific release date, at least one more aspect of the phone’s launch has now been revealed, as pre-orders for the handset share its pricing details.
Retailer Negri Electronics recently put up a page for the forthcoming Xperia Ion, letting anxious Sony fans secure a pre-order for the phone. The site doesn’t offer an estimation for when the device may become available, but if you’d like to secure one all the same, you’ll have to drop about $570.
What do you get for that money? The Xperia Ion features a dual-core 1.5GHz processor, a large 4.6-inch 720p display, and an impressive-sounding 12-megapixel rear camera. Considering what phones like the Galaxy Nexus go for off-contract, that $570 sounds like a pretty decent deal for the hardware being provided. If you’re also living in an area that’s getting an early taste of AT&T LTE service, so much the better.
