The Walkman brand, once associated with cassette players back in the days of boomboxes and brightly-colored pants, has been reincarnated several times in phone form factors. All Sony Walkman phones so far have been essentially featurephones with enhancements to the video and music players to provide enhanced multimedia prowess. As a sign of the times, rumor has it that Sony Ericsson is working on a device called the W15, which will continue the Walkman brand but with Android this time, plus a 600MHz CPU, a smallish 3″ HVGA screen, and a 3.2MP camera. It’s possible that Sony Ericsson could be positioning the “W” line of devices as a lower-end alternative to their flagship Xperia phones.
