It’s been a rough couple months for Sony Ericsson’s Xperia Pro, where an anticipated summer release fell through and the smartphone had to be pushed back until Q4. At least, that’s to be the case in the UK; while we don’t expect Sony Ericsson to be able to release the phone in other markets any earlier, the company has at least managed to get one Xperia Pro ready for testing, with the handset showing up in FCC certification paperwork this morning.

Luckily for us, this is one of those rare collection of FCC smartphone documents that includes plenty of pictures of the model, as well as the phone’s getting-started guide.

As the Xperia Pro MK16i, the smartphone supports quad-band GSM but lacks US 3G compatibility. Instead, you’ll find a radio capable of operation on the 900 and 2100MHz bands, making this look to be the Xperia Pro destined for a European release.

It’s a shame that we still have several months to wait for the smartphone to arrive, but in the meantime, you can check out the FCC filing yourself for a whole bunch more pictures of the Xperia Pro, including some more internal tear-down shots.

Update: Another Xperia Pro model, MK16a, has appeared at the FCC with quad-band HSPA, including support for AT&T’s US frequencies.
