The next version of Android, codenamed Ice Cream Sandwich, is going to be released sometime October/November, according to Google’s own Eric Schmidt. Then it will be up to OEMs to issue updates for their existing phones (taking longer for some while the others acting faster).
According to a Sony Ericsson representative, all of the manufacturer’s 2011 Xperia phones in this year’s line-up will be updated to Android Ice Cream Sandwich. That’s a lot of phones: Xperia Arc, Xperia Play, Xperia Neo, Xperia Pro, Xperia Arc S, Xperia Neo V, and Xperia Ray. There are no details of course as per when these updates will start rolling out but it’s safe to assume that it will be in 2012 (and we hope for the first half of the year).
