We got our last update from Sony Ericsson on the fate of the Xperia X10′s Gingerbread update about a month ago. The company provided some new details about what to expect, and mentioned that we could expect to see it arrive during the first week of August. Now it looks like SE might just beat its own August deadline, with a recent Facebook update saying that it could arrive sometime before the end of the week.
The company’s Facebook representative posted that he’s been told the update’s expected to go out during the 30th week of the year this week. That’s assuming that carriers give the update the go-ahead, and it may come to some sooner than others.
There are a lot of variables at play here, such that we wouldn’t be surprised at all if we didn’t see anyone start sending out X10 updates until after we reach August, but it’s tantalizing to think that there’s the potential to get our hands on the code this week. Like the rest of the current Xperia models, the X10 will get Gingerbread with SE’s “Facebook inside Xperia” social-networking integration. It may not be the same as having a Facebook hardware button, but should provide much of the same functionality.
Get your kicks with Eclair while they last, because your X10 will be making the jump to Gingerbread any time now.
