It’s hard to blame Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 owners for being excited about the update that will bring their smartphones to Gingerbread; after all, going all the way from Eclair, skipping straight over Froyo, is a pretty big step. Well, it looks like you’re not the only ones who are excited about the release, as Sony Ericsson itself seems to have gotten a bit wrapped-up in X10 Gingerbread enthusiasm. Yesterday the company added Gingerbread info to its update page for the X10, making it appear to be all ready for download and installation to carrier-unbranded X10s. Now SE has had to backtrack, pulling down the info and announcing that it will still be several days until the update becomes available.
Sony Ericsson doesn’t give much in the way of detail to explain how this mix-up happened, but offers its assurances that the update is still on-track for the timing originally provided. That information said that the update was expected for this week, and pending approval would go out to carrier-branded X10s shortly thereafter. If this really is just a matter of days until the update is actually released, then SE has a good shot at making good on that release estimate.
