Simon Walker, Head of the developer program at Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications stated in a series of posts on Twitter that he is “actually in favor [of rooting Android devices] if we do it right.”
When asked several questions regarding difficulty rooting two Sony Ericsson Android devices, the X10 and X10i, he replied that he understands the way that developers feel and will articulate this to the relevant people inside SEMC. We have recently heard similar statements by companies such as Motorola regarding enabling further developer support for unlocking and rooting devices.
Walker says he will work with fellow colleagues Erik Hellman, research manager, and Troed Sangberg, research and strategy director to get discussions underway. He promises to keep everyone informed, and states the first discussions will be begin this week.
