Plenty of smartphone users buy protective cases for their expensive phones, to spare them from any incidental damage the world may kick up in the phone’s direction. Apparently the phones are willing to reciprocate, as one HTC owner found his phone protecting him, deflecting an incoming bullet.
John Garber is employed as a valet at an Atlanta night club, where he was working one night when some disgruntled patrons of the club fired shots in the building’s direction. One of those bullets passed through Garber’s jacket, connecting with the smartphone he kept in his left chest pocket. Instead of continuing along to strike him, the bullet was stopped by the phone’s battery.
Showing off the heroic hardware, apparently from a Droid Incredible or EVO 4G with their recognizable red batteries, Garber points out how narrowly he escaped injury, as the bullet just barely made contact with the battery’s edge; another centimeter to the side, and the dense battery materials may not have been able to help.
There’s no word on if the phone survived this incident, but even if he needs to pick up a new one, Garber is a self-professed HTC customer for life.
