Sharp has announced the first two handsets to run on China’s newest Android distro, Tapas, the SH8128U (pictured left) and SH8118U (pictured right). Tapas is an operating system funded by ex-Google China president Kai-Fu Lee’s startup incubation firm, Innovation Works. Besides Sharp, Haier and Tianyu are also expected to reveal Tapas-powered hardware in the near future.

As for the two devices, they are both powered by a 600MHz processor, sport five-megapixel cameras with flash, and feature the usual smattering of Bluetooth, WiFi, and microSD expansion. In fact the only difference here relates to screen size and resolution: the 8128U packs a 3.5-inch WVGA display, compared to the 3.2-inch HVGA offered by the 8118U. Both models are expected to ship in October — only in China, of course — for around $475 and $335 for the 8128U and 8118U, respectively.
