Apple fans may camp out for days in advance of the next iPhone or iPad release, hoping to be among the first to get a chance to score one of their soon-to-be-favorite gadgets at retail. While there’s no denying that most other smartphone platforms have their share of devotees, we rarely see the same, special Apple brand of obsessive devotion. Best Buy may be hoping to inspire a similar sort of lust to be among the first to have a new smartphone with tomorrow’s launch of the HTC EVO 3D on Sprint, announcing that its stores will be opening early for the event.
While your local Best Buy most likely normally opens at 10a.m. on a Friday, if it’s one of the many locations that carry Sprint phones, doors will be opening at 8a.m. tomorrow, instead. Plan your commute right, and you could snag one of the no-glasses-required 3D handsets on your way to work (not that you’d get much done through the rest of the day after picking up an EVO 3D). You might want to hold off on installing the first update, though.
Sure, we’ve got our doubts about just how many customers will make the early trip, but it’s still great to see Best Buy trying to stir up this kind of interest in a non-Apple smartphone; we just don’t see enough of that. The EVO 3D will sell for about $200 with the standard two-year service agreement.
