T-Mobile will begin pushing the limits of its HSPA+ network next week, as the company has confirmed that the Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant 4G, with its high-speed capabilities, will arrive on February 23.
TmoNews tipped the rumored release date last month, and with a little over a week to go, the carrier has backed-up that prediction with a notification on its Facebook wall. You’ll be able to get the phone a week from Wednesday, running about $150 after rebates and a two-year contract.
As if all the different “flavors” of 4G weren’t enough to confuse you when looking at WiMAX versus LTE versus HSPA+, the HSPA+ that T-Mobile uses for its 4G network can be accessed by devices with varying levels of performance. The Vibrant 4G will be the first smartphone on the carrier that’s set up to draw upon a 21Mbps downlink, for speeds theoretically capable of rivaling home broadband connections.
Hardware-wise, there’s little that’s changed since the original Vibrant (available at T-Mobile for $100), but Samsung has thought to add on a front-facing camera. While it shouldn’t weigh too heavily in your consideration of which smartphone to pick up, T-Mobile and Samsung are including a copy of the film Inception; at least it should look great on the four-inch Super AMOLED display.
There’s no word on pre-order right now, so sit tight for the 23rd to get your 4G Galaxy S fix.
