Back at the end of May, we saw a leaked picture claiming to be a prototype for the next Nexus smartphone (later revealed as a fake), accompanied by the rumor that Google was looking for a new manufacturer for the device. As you know, HTC made the Nexus One, and Samsung the Nexus S. We heard that the third Nexus could be either another HTC handset, or possibly one from LG. Now it looks like it could be Samsung again, with a tweet from Samsung’s division in Romania apparently confirming its intent to manufacture the next Nexus device.
The company responded to a tweet about the new Nexus by saying that production hasn’t started yet, and that it’s expected to sometime towards the end of this year. We’re just noticing the news now, but the statement was made back at the end of June. The language barrier makes us apprehensive to say that this is a definitive statement that Samsung is producing the next Nexus, but that’s the feeling we get from what Google Translate spits out.
The tweet also confirms that the new Nexus will ship with Android 4.0. The question now is just what hardware the smartphone will feature. Coming off the Galaxy S2, Samsung is in a position to keep on impressing us; let’s hope it’s up to the task.
