With October upon us, it’s just a matter of days until Samsung and Google debut their new gear what we’re hoping very much to be the Nexus Prime. In advance of the planned October 11 event, a picture has arrived of what’s claimed to be the Nexus Prime itself, showing off its high resolution, high density screen.
While this tease of an image only shows off one small bit of the phone’s exterior, we can see via the software its running that the phone does indeed have a 720p display. Why only 1184 pixels high, though? Don’t forget this is Ice Cream Sandwich, and in addition to the status bar, some of those pixels are making up the on-screen Android buttons that replace the need for hardware controls. All that would add up to 96 pixels, bringing us up to the expected 1280. While it falls just barely short, the 320 ppi density is comparable to that of the Retina Display on current iPhones.
Supposedly, we’re looking at a 4.6-inch screen, though we’ve heard rumors as low as 4.3 inches. It will be Super AMOLED, though whether that means PenTile or not remains to be seen.
