Users of the Samsung Intercept on Sprint may be able to finally stop waiting for Froyo, as an internal Sprint screenshot shows that the Android 2.2 update will be available tomorrow, December 17.

With Gingerbread taking the spotlight as of late, it can be easy to forget about all the phones that are still playing the Android catch-up game. Sprint customers have been able to get their hands on Intercepts since July, so they’ve been living under the shadow of Froyo for the entire time they’ve owned their smartphones. If tomorrow’s update goes through (and the information certainly looks legitimate), they can finally catch up and begin their pining for Gingerbread. The software should be sent out to users automatically; there’s no information yet on manual upgrade options for the impatient.

Sprint notes the update will help solve some dropped-call issues, problems with web access, and UI behavior. Since Froyo adds in support for WiFi tethering, Sprint will also begin offering its hotspot plan to users who want to take advantage of it, for an additional $30 a month.

Besides Sprint, Virgin Mobile users also have access to the Intercept. There’s no word yet from Virgin on when those customers can expect an Android update for their smartphones.
