Samsung i857 Habrok On AT&T Revealed As Samsung Doubletime

Four months ago, we got a look at an AT&T roadmap mentioning the internal codenames of several upcoming smartphones for the carrier. Some we already were able to match up with their common names, while others were new to us. One of those unknown models was the Samsung i857 Habrok, apparently a low-to-mid-tier device. At the time, the Android phone was tipped for a Q3 release. Just where has it been, and what will it be called? While we still can’t answer the former with any certainty, the latest data from Cellebrite ties that model i857 to the name Samsung Doubletime.

Cellebrite provides tools to transfer stored data from phone-to-phone, and we’ll see support added for new phones in advance of their release, in order to have retailers ready to help transition-over customers.

What else do we know about the Doubletime? From the earlier roadmap we can see a few specs, like an HVGA display (presumably in the mid-three-inch range), a three-megapixel camera, 1200mAh battery, and plans to ship the phone with Android 2.2 Froyo. It’s unlikely any of that hardware’s changing, but enough time has passed that we might reasonably expect Samsung to have upgraded the phone to Gingerbread before it’s released. We haven’t heard any update of just when that might be, nor about plans for the Doubletime to arrive on any other carriers.
