It’s seeming more and more plausible that some upgraded hardware will make its way into the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 before the stylus-based tablet makes its retail debut. That’s not the only Samsung tablet where we’ve been wondering about hardware changes, and there have been some rumors that we might see a similar treatment given to both upcoming Galaxy Tab 2 models. While there’s been at least one leak that seemed to suggest something odd was going on with those tablets, assigning them code names we hadn’t seen used before well after they had already been officially announced, that didn’t necessarily mean we would be looking at changes to their hardware. If you were still holding out hope for a quad-core Galaxy Tab 2, you can put it to rest for the time being, as pre-orders for the tablet are clearly describing it as a dual-core device.

Office Depot has pre-orders open for the 10.1-inch Tab 2, going for just about $400 a pop. This WiFi-only version of the Ice Cream Sandwich tablet will have 16GB internal storage, with expansion available via microSD.

While quad-core would have been a nice touch, we’ll just have to keep hoping the Note 10.1 will be the Samsung device to finally deliver.
