It looks like smartphone fans in the US will soon be able to pick up Samsung’s popular Galaxy S2 from one of their local carriers, joining the international community that has already had a chance to try out the high-powered handset. After Samsung’s J.K. Shin broke the news that the smartphone was expected to come to the US in August, we’ve been catching a few glimpses of what might be some of these handsets, including the purported AT&T model with a slide-out QWERTY keyboard. Today we’ve got a little more information on those US-bound GS2s, as well as some about a new GS2 model.
With the GS2s expected to arrive in just a matter of weeks, it’s no surprise that we’re seeing them pop-up in FCC-published testing documentation. Yesterday, the agency revealed the paperwork for what looks like it could be Sprint’s version of the smartphone, the Galaxy Within. We were wondering if the handset would be blessed with 4G connectivity on the carrier, and based on these documents, it should indeed be all set for WiMAX operation.
The UK may already have the GS2, but soon it will another GS2 option for you to choose from. Pre-orders have opened for a white version of the smartphone, with all other specs going unchanged. The white GS2 is expected to become available next month; no word on plans to make it available in the US.
