Samsung announced the availability of the Galaxy S II Android smartphone for the UK and it’s May 1. After rumors of it being delayed to May and then Samsung’s own commitment for an April release with a gradual roll-out, it looks like May 1 is the date to circle in the calendar if you’re a UK resident.
The model will be GT-I9100 — meaning it will be powered by the manufacturer’s own Exynos 4210 CPU at 1.2GHz (ex-Orion) and aided by the Mali-400 MP GPU, opposed to the model GT-I9103 powered by nVidia Tegra 2, running a ULP GeForce GPU.
That aside, you’ve got Android 2.3 Gingerbread on board, Super AMOLED Plus screen technology for the 4.27-inch WVGA display and an eight-megapixel camera with 1080p HD recording and playback. It will be available “across all major networks and retailers”, that is, starting May 1.
