Samsung had been implying pretty forcefully that the presentation it’s planning for February 13 in Barcelona, just before the MWC gets rolling, would reveal the next evolution of the Galaxy S. A schedule for the event now confirms that the S 2 will be unveiled, along with the next-gen Galaxy Tab.

Not to be confused with upgrades to the Galaxy S like T-Mobile’s recently-announced Galaxy S 4G, the full successor to the S is supposed to feature all-new hardware, including a dual-core processor. The other major upgrade to look for is moving from a Super AMOLED to a Super AMOLED+ screen, including additional sub-pixel elements and a traditional RGB layout. Ultimately, that means you can expect a higher-resolution screen that will reportedly give the Retina Display a run for its money.

While tablets may not exactly be our cup of tea, the Galaxy Tab 2 announcement should give users interested in an Android alternative to the iPad another serious option, joining the first Android 3-powered tablets like Motorola’s Xoom. We’re not privy to any juicy specs on the Tab 2, but 4G connectivity seems like it could be a key feature.
