Samsung recently released the source code for Froyo on its Fascinate, in advance of the actual update arriving. Sure, we’ve seen some leaked builds come out, with various degrees of polish, but there’s yet to be any sort of OTA update sent out over Verizon. That wait’s just about over, with Verizon planning to start pushing the update out tomorrow.
The update will bring Fascinate models up to software revision 1500.ED01 – the same version reflected in the source code Samsung published. As we mentioned when looking over that release, this all is a bit of a mixed bag; sure, Fascinate owners are finally joining the world of Froyo, but the phone’s already getting Gingerbread over in Europe. Knowing that there’s so much more recent software out there makes the availability of this update a little less special.
Besides the standard Froyo improvements, there’s a fair share of extra updates and bug fixes included with the update. Verizon wants you to have the latest VCAST, so it’s bundling that along with the update, and Samsung includes its Media Hub. Minor fixes include more sensible speakerphone behavior, both when docked and using Bluetooth, and improvements to the call history display. Be on the lookout for update notifications to start arriving tomorrow, April 21.
