Way back in March 2011 we told you of an early alpha of CyanogenMod 7 for the Samsung Epic 4G (SPH-D700). Unfortunately, the smartphone wasn’t officially included as a supported device, it was just a port of the insanely popular CM7 source made to work on the Epic 4G — and progress since then has been very slow.

Recently the Epic 4G was officially welcomed into the CyanogenMod fold, complete with its own forum and github repositories, though it’s not currently on the “Devices” page.

The first official build is 7.2.0 RC0. The following features are known to have problems in this build:

– WiFi Hotspot is broken

– Charging notification LED does not light until full charge is reached

– Video playback for certain encoders don’t work right

– WiMax isn’t working yet

Also, it should be noted that CyanogenMod ROMs don’t run OEM launchers, so this ROM doesn’t (and won’t ever) have TouchWiz.
