In the past few weeks Samsung’s Droid Charge has been the subject of several rumored release dates, none of which have turned out to be correct. It wasn’t here on April 7, didn’t show on April 14, and the latest we’ve heard has the Charge set for an April 28 retail debut. Today a leaked Costco phone roadmap adds some credence to that last date, and give us a little insight into what’s been going on with the Motorola Bionic.
The 28th, one week from Thursday, could end up being Droid Day, if both the Charge and the Incredible 2 are simultaneously released. We’d heard this date for the Charge from a source last week, and the Incredible 2′s been linked to it in a few leaked documents. This new Costco screen backs up the date for the Charge, but is it current information?
The inclusion of the Bionic in this leak seems to discredit the rumors that have been going around lately about the Bionic’s sudden cancellation in favor of the Targa. If we’re to believe them, then it wouldn’t make sense to see the Bionic tagged for a May 12 release, as it is here. The proximity of the date suggests that, if the rumor’s true, Verizon pulled the plug on the Bionic with just a month to go before it’s planned availability. Again, we don’t even know if the phone is being pulled for sure, but if it has been, we have to consider that this Charge date may be outdated as well. That aspect aside, though, the Charge is looking pretty good for an April 28 release.
Update: While we wait for its release, the Charge has just appeared in a new hands-on video. The smartphone reportedly looks and performs great, but could be suffering from an under-performing battery.
