Another day, another no-Droid-Charges-up-for-sale. Well, not officially, anyway. Verizon’s still getting its ducks in a row following last week’s launch that didn’t happen, but we’ve heard about the stray store here and there letting a few go to lucky customers in advance of Verizon giving the go-ahead. Walmart’s apparently trying to avoid such incidents with a notice posted for its mobile sales employees, forbidding sales for the time being, noting that Verizon won’t support activating the phones due to “an issue with functionality in their system”.

While claiming that Verizon isn’t supporting activations, some of those early Charge owners who found a sympathetic or clueless employee to put the sale through have been able to successfully activate their phones. At least one claims he was told at the store that it couldn’t be activated, was sold the phone nonetheless, and managed to get Verizon to flip the switch after the fact. Once activated, users are reporting 4G LTE service working without a hitch.

So, apparently Verizon can and has activated Charges, but it’s still telling Walmart that it won’t support Charge activations. The note to not sell the phone expires from Walmart’s system on Monday morning; perhaps official sales will finally start then, and we’ll get some idea of what this supposed “issue with functionality” was.
