From the moment Sprint announced the Samsung Conquer 4G, we knew it would be a budget-priced smartphone. The carrier said that when it launched the phone, on August 21, you’d be able to pick it up for just $100 on-contract. As we approach that date, some even better deals are popping-up, and Radio Shack just set the bar at a new low, giving away the Conquer 4G for a mere $20 when you commit to two years of Sprint service.

Granted, the Conquer’s hardware is far from state-of-the art, with a single-core 1GHz Snapdragon and a 3.5-inch HVGA screen. That’s still beefier than some of the other budget models coming out, such as LG’s Optimus Net. You’ll also be hard-pressed to find such a smartphone with 4G connectivity like the Conquer. WiMAX may be slipping in the 4G race to LTE, and have a bit of an uncertain future, but it’s not going anywhere in the next couple years, so don’t fret too much.

To qualify for Radio Shack’s steal of a deal, you’ll need to sign-up while creating a new Sprint account. If you decide to bite and get yourself a Conquer 4G, be on the lookout for the phone’s first software update to arrive on launch day.

Update: Looks like this was too good to be true. The link below still appears to be working, but it likely won’t for long. “The device is not available — online or in stores — until Sunday, 8.21, and our price is $69.99. To clarify further, RadioShack is not offering a pre-order opportunity on this handset.”
