The Samsung Captivate will be getting an OTA update that brings with it some improvements to the Android 2.1 operating system. Unfortunately, though, this won’t be the update to get Android 2.2 Froyo running as the carrier notes that “this is not an operating system upgrade,” but the firmware update will bring with it:
-Preinstalled software – QuickOffice for Android will allow users to edit various Microsoft Office documents.
-Messaging – Exchange 2003 support, MMS and other messaging enhancements.
-Voice – Improved calling experience.
-Media – media scanning time improvements.
Updates will begin today and get pushed out over the air in batches of 15,000 per day through Friday.
