If we’re to believe certain nasty rumors, owners of the Samsung Vibrant won’t be getting their Froyo updates until after the launch of the Vibrant 4G. While there are other sensible explanations for the delay, all eyes will be on Samsung once the Vibrant 4G comes out to see what its next move is. According to a leaked timeline of T-Mobile releases, that date could be as soon as February 23.
The timeline comes courtesy of TmoNews, suggesting we have a little over a month to go until the Vibrant 4G’s retail availability. The HSPA+ smartphone will purportedly be able to reach download speeds as high as 21Mbps, beating out currently-available T-Mobile 4G models. With a four-inch Super AMOLED screen and 1GHz processor, many of the hardware specs are nearly identical to the original Vibrant, fueling some of the fires that the Vibrant 4G is little more than an HSPA+ software upgrade.
The latest theories on the Galaxy S Froyo availability focus more on backroom agreements between Samsung and the carriers, so the Vibrant 4G’s availability may have little bearing on the update’s release. We’ll just have to wait and see what transpires at the end of February.
