Sprint’s been advising users of Samsung’s Epic 4G to keep their patience as the carrier puts the phone’s Android 2.2 upgrade through extensive testing before certifying it for release. The company may be wrapping things up, as rumors indicate that the official Froyo update will go out in about two weeks, on February 21.
A tipster has provided Android Central with an image of the WiMAX phone running a copy of Froyo build EA17, which he identifies as the final revision which will ultimately go out to Sprint users. We’ve been waiting for Android 2.2 to come along for months now, after a rumored December 26 release failed to deliver. Before you get too excited about this Feb 21 pronouncement, keep in mind that past disappointment.
We’ve seen a leaked a Android 2.2 build for another Samsung Galaxy S model, Verizon’s Fascinate, pop up earlier this month. Android Central cryptically suggests that its insider has named February 22 for that update’s official release, but offers no further comment. This one’s definitely going to be a wait-and-see situation.
