Unsourced rumors are far from the best way to get information on forthcoming phone updates, but in the lack of an official update like the one we got from HTC yesterday, they’re often the best option available. Even when they miss the mark a little, they can still be in the right ballpark. Today we heard a little bit about what Samsung’s plans might be for bringing Ice Cream Sandwich to several of its Android handsets, but we’re not sure just how much faith to put in the rumors.

This news comes courtesy of Eldar Murtazin; he’s gone public with a lot of predictions over the last couple weeks, and we’re still waiting to learn just how accurate these recent pronouncements have been.

First off, he claims that the initial ICS updates for Samsung Galaxy S II hardware will begin to go out on March 1. Not everyone, everywhere would have access to the update that day, but Murtazin was specific in that that’s when the process will start.

Next up, Murtazin says that the Galaxy Note will also start seeing ICS arrive in March, though not necessarily on March 1. It could take users in some regions up until May to get their hands on it, though. He also sites that March-May windows as the ICS update target for other Samsung models, but didn’t enumerate models.

These claims are largely broad enough to sound plausible, but we’d like to learn a little more before locking-in to that March 1 date.
