Android smartphone users that also like to use their devices for navigation have the opportunity to download the new Route 66 application, now available in the Android Market, for all your mapping and navigation needs.
The software features “Follow Me”, an augmented reality navigation solution which is awesome (check video below); we’ve heard of this since way back in February and it is now finally here. Also in the package is free lifetime access to 104 different maps with 3D graphics, the ability to download mapping data on the go or prior to the journey, and more.
Route 66 is available for free and requires Android 2.1, 2.2 and 2.3 – 2.3.7. It offers free access to maps and a 30-day Worldwide Trial license, until 31 December 2011, which includes Navigation (including Follow Me) and free access to premium services like Traffic information and Speed cameras. For the lifetime Worldwide Navigation license with turn-by-turn navigation in over 80 countries, you’ll have to use the software’s in-app purchase mechanism and pay EUR 49.99 / USD 64.99.
