Earlier today, we looked at how easy it was to clean house on the newly-released HTC EVO 3D on Sprint. The pre-installed apps could be removed without issue, instead of requiring you to root the phone before your uninstall any you weren’t interested in keeping. Sounded good, and we were pleasantly surprised, but it looks like there’s even more reason to be happy; this could just be the first of many Androids Sprint releases where you won’t have unwanted apps forced upon you.

MobileBurn contacted Sprint to see what was going on with the EVO 3D. After all, you’d be forgiven for thinking shipping the phone unsecured like that was an oversight. Sprint said “nope”, that it knew darn well what it was doing, and that it could keep this up with future releases.

Why would Sprint do such a thing? Deals that guarantee app placement are a good revenue stream for the carriers, after all. Why bite the hand that feeds you? The answer’s simple: we don’t like all that bloat. Sprint’s decision is based directly on customer feedback. The EVO 3D case seems more like an experiment than anything, and Sprint’s not made a permanent decision about the future either way, but it’s clearly listening, so let the carrier know what you think of bloatware on your brand-new Android.
