Quick Access to Google Voice with Android Widgets

Not long ago we showed you the two new Google Voice widgets that came with the leaked G2 ROM. Today, according to a post on the Google Voice Blog you can now download the version of Google Voice on your Android phone that gives you these widgets, free from the Android Market!

The Google Voice Inbox widget shows your most recent voicemails and text messages in a 3×1 widget on your home screen. You can even flip though messages in your Inbox and tap on any of the message previews to open that message inside the app.

The Google Voice Settings widget is also a 3×1 widget. It gives you:

- one-tap access to launch the Google Voice app,

- quick access to compose and send text messages,

- an easy way to change your dialing preferences on the fly,

- lets you easily set “Do No Disturb” to automatically send all calls to your Google number straight to Voicemail,

- and even displays the current balance of your Google Voice account.

To use this new version of Google Voice (along with its widgets) you’ll need a valid Google Voice account, but the service is free to anyone in the US (no more invitation needed). The app is free in the Android Market.
