Qualcomm CEO Dr. Paul E. Jacobs went on stage at the Qualcomm Uplinq conference and announced that the company’s quad-core processor for smartphones will be coming soon.
Jacobs didn’t give out an exact date so we’ll have to settle for the “coming soon” timeframe even though the new chips can’t come soon enough. Qualcomm’s dual-core processors have just reached some markets (and soon the U.S. too with the Sensation 4G) after the chipset was launched last year.
Seeing the nVidia Tegra3 Kal El chip and hearing the talk of it being featured in Android devices this summer, it’s unlikely that Qualcomm can produce a competing chip in the exact time-frame (and let’s not forget Texas Instruments are not standing still either).
