At the end of March, Qualcomm showed off some of its next-gen tech in the MSM8660 Mobile Development Platform, meant to give Android developers a chance to see how their apps would handle the upcoming MSM8x60 platform with its dual-core Snapdragons and Adreno 220 GPUs. Now you can get a look for yourself at just what phones based on the MSM8660 could be capable of for yourself, as some new videos show off the platform’s performance at gaming and media playback.
The MSM8660 is projected to appear on a slew of upcoming phones, from the HTC Doubleshot/myTouch 4G Slide, to possibly the EVO 3D. We’ve seen the benchmark figures, which were impressive enough on their own, but the new videos really add a more accessible means by which to see how smartphones integrating this SoC will fare against the competition. One aspect highlighted is the optimized Flash video engine, giving phones using the MSM8660 a leg up. 1080p playback also receives a good deal of attention, and MSM8660-based systems should manage playback at up to 30fps without a hitch.
While you technically could score a MSM8660 MDP for your own, with dual 1.5GHz cores, at over $1300, you’re probably best waiting a few more months until consumer-geared MSM8660 phones debut.
Even single-core performance with these new Qualcomm chips looks impressive…
… but the dual-core chips are where things really get interesting.
