Competition at its finest! First nVidia announces its Tegra 3 quad-core (actually penta-core) SoC then comes ARM with its latest Mali-T658 GPU. Now it’s time for Qualcomm to announce new mobile processors, a new showcase application and a slew of games.
New Snapdragon S4 processors are expected to lower design, engineering and inventory costs and bring great Internet connection speeds from basic to high-end smartphones. Several new S4 chipsets were announced, among which the MSM8660A, MSM8260A, MSM8630, MSM8230, MSM8627, MSM8227, APQ8060A and APQ8030. Expect them early next year with EV-DO, HSPA+, TD-SCDMA, LTE FDD, LTE TDD and Wi-Fi compatibility.
Snapdragon S1 chips, the MSM7225A, MSM7625A, MSM7227A and MSM7627A, were upgraded with improved performance for entry-level smartphone users.
Qualcomm also announced the expansion of its Snapdragon GamePack with additional titles, together with the launch of Snapdragon GameCommand, a new showcase application.
