Last night, we gave you a hands-on look at the HTC EVO 4G LTE, some enhanced One XL hardware that’s looking to be the third LTE-supporting smartphone to debut on Sprint’s new network. There’s understandably a lot of excitement for this model, improving on the initial One XL design with a larger battery and microSD support. HTC has since posted a video to its YouTube account that shows-off the EVO 4G LTE while giving us some insight into the company’s design process. As the camera pans by a row of some of HTC’s case designs, we can see one model which seems to suggest HTC’s been toying with the idea of a new 3D-capable smartphone.

The device in question is clearly set up to have dual rear cameras, a dead giveaway for an autostereoscopic 3D smartphone. Considering the other design cues in place, it seems like HTC was considering this 3D option specifically for the EVO 4G LTE, rather than something that would arrive as part of its One-series.

Admittedly, this could be nothing more than an idea that got visited once and rejected; in this video HTC shows a ton of other little iterations in the EVO 4G LTE’s design that it considered along the way. There’s always the chance, though, that the company will come back to the idea, and we might just see a new 3D phone with current-gen hardware specs from HTC sooner than we know it.
