It was just a couple of hours ago that Google has announced its mobile payment products and services, Google Wallet and Google Offers and it was also just a couple of hours ago that PayPal has filed a lawsuit against Mountain View.
The document is 28 pages long and initiated the lawsuit against Google in Santa Clara County Superior Court in California. PayPal says that its former employee Osama Bedier misappropriated PayPal’s trade secrets letting Google in on them. “Bedier and Google have misappropriated PayPal trade secrets by disclosing them within Google and to major retailers”.
Bedier allegedly took part in negotiations with Google for four years between 2008 and 2011 trying to make PayPal serve as a payment option for mobile app purchases on Google’s Android Market. “At the very point when the companies were negotiating and finalizing the Android-PayPal deal, Bedier was interviewing for a job at Google without informing PayPal of this conflicting position” says the lawsuit.
Google Vice President of Electronic Commerce, Stephanie Tilenius, also ex-PayPal executive, allegedly violated contractual obligations by recruiting Bedier, according to the filing. PayPal is asking for unspecified compensatory and punitive damages, restitution as well as royalty in the lawsuit where additional 50 unidentified people are listed as defendants.
