Palm’s Pixi may not come off as a very powerful smartphone, owing both to its diminutive form factor and less-than-stellar 600MHz processor. If you’re a proud Palm owner looking to change some minds and show off just what your Pixi can do, a new kernel hack is available which allows you to boost your smartphone’s performance by up to 33 percent, for a maximum speed of 806MHz.

By popping in the latest UberKernel release and controlling its settings via the Govnah app, you can fine-tune the performance boost your phone will see. Pushing the Pixi this far is a delicate balance, and initially users struggled with finding Govnah settings that were stable and ran without crashes or freeze-ups. The users on the PreCentral forums have been posting the results of their experiments, leading to the discovery of configuration options that should allow stable Pixi operation at high speeds, with slight UI lag as one of the only noticeable trade-offs.

This is great news for users who found that their Pixis were really struggling to perform under ordinary daily use. While this solution isn’t going to make a Pre 2 (or even an overclocked original Pre) out of your Pixi, the extra CPU speed reportedly make the phone much more usable.
