Quad-core Android smartphones based on NVIDIA’s Tegra 3 processor are still a way’s off, but our first opportunity to try out the new technology should be arriving in the relatively near future, with the debut of the first Tegra 3-powered tablets. We’re not sure who will be the first to get one to market, but we’ve seen models in-development from the likes of ZTE and ASUS. It looks like NVIDIA is also getting ready for the first Tegra 3 devices to become available, producing a teaser video showing off some of the processor’s abilities.
The scenarios depicted in the video may not represent the most realistic usage conditions, but NVIDIA does right by hitting on most of the places where people are going to look to quad-core processors to really showcase their power. That means things like gaming, an area where we’ve already seen NVIDIA demonstrate the chipset’s graphical might. That ability to push an insane number of pixels through its pipeline also lends itself to viewing HD video, which will be even more important with the arrival of 720p (and hopefully higher) screens for smartphones.
Unfortunately, this clip, as it’s currently published to YouTube, appears to be incomplete, missing the tail end. Even still, what’s available makes us all the more eager to finally see for ourselves just what Tegra 3 can do.
