Hope of the next iPad running a quad-core processor may be rapidly diminishing, but there’s plenty of other quad-core gear still on the horizon for us to be looking forward to. Some of the most anticipated devices are the first wave of Android-powered quad-core smartphones from the likes of HTC and LG, which we hope to get a chance to see at the Mobile World Congress later this month. At the heart of many of these models we’ll find NVIDIA’s quad-core Tegra 3 chip. The company is understandably excited about all the attention its processor is getting, and has just started distributing invites to a MWC event where it claims we’ll get to see some “quad-core firsts”.

We wonder if NVIDIA’s teaser means that we’ll actually learn about something new done with the Tegra 3, but if it’s just talking about quad-core smartphones in general, we’re pretty sure the boat’s already sailed on that opportunity.

At the least, we might get a chance to learn about other hardware built around Tegra 3 chips that we haven’t yet caught wind of. While other companies are working on their own quad-core offerings, like Samsung and the Exynos 5450 that’s been rumored, Tegra 3 is going to drive the start of this movement, just like the Tegra 2 did for dual-core devices. That just means there are plenty of possibilities for what NVIDIA might be planning to show-off. Any guesses?
