Initially starting up as a rumor, it has been now confirmed that Nuance has acquired Swype in a deal worth $100 million. This will allow Nuance to ship either its own T9 keyboard layout or a more elaborate QWERTY variant.
With Apple’s introduction of the iPhone 4S and its Siri voice-enabled assistant, Nuance may be looking for an alternative way to expand into the Android world. Swype is already very popular internationally and comes pre-loaded on many high-end Android phones, such as the Galaxy S was in its day or the Galaxy S II in the present.
